Sky News 1989 – 1990

The launch of Sky News on February 5, 1989, was a groundbreaking moment in British television. It was the UK’s first 24-hour dedicated news channel, offering continuous news coverage and changing the way news was consumed in the country. Owned by Rupert Murdoch’s Sky Television, it quickly became a significant player in the media landscape, known for its innovative use of technology and 24-hour format. It had a lasting impact on the way news is delivered in the UK.

One of the unique aspect of Sky News anchors, was that they humanised the news, by chatting to each other, this is a technique know has ‘happy talk’ borrowed from CNN. At the end of the programme, time would be given to them to chat and also hand over to the next set of anchors, by name checking them.
