After 29 years of loyal service, Anglia Television retired its Silver Knight on Monday 21st March 1988. The new look was created by Lambie-Nairn, with accompanying music by Nic Rowley.

Chief Executive David McCall said “The Anglia Knight was one of the best known symbols on any TV company in the country, and has been part of Anglia since the beginning in 1959. It was a big decision to say that we were going to dispense with it, but although the knight worked quite well off screen, it didn’t work on screen. Audience research had shown that Anglia had reputation for quality, however its presentation style was perceived as old fashioned, and design consultants made it clear it wouldn’t be possible to adapt the knight with the newer technology. The new symbol had been designed to project Anglia reputation more effectively in a new competitive broadcasting environment of the 1990s.”

In 1993 a new style was introduced.

As with all Granada and UNM owned stations, Anglia replaced their own idents with the Hearts on the 8th November 1999.

As part of the United Media Group, Anglia along with Meridian introduced these “Spirit of..” Break Bumpers, featuring local people.

On Monday 28th October 2002, a brand new look was introduced for ITV1. All networked programming was preceded by the ITV1 network idents. Regional idents were now only used prior to local programming. The following are Anglia’s set of idents, which are all clean, full length versions.

On 1st November 2004 another look was introduced.

Images below kindly supplied by Tim Atkinson taken from a soft back booklet Anglia produced in the early 70s, that included a cut-out and play TV studio with cameras, set and even cutouts of presenters Miss Rosalyn (Romper Room), John Bacon (news) and a moustachioed Michael Hunt (weather).
