BBC Alba

Launched on September 19, 2008, BBC Alba (pronounced “Al-la-bah”) serves both Scottish and Scottish Gaelic speakers. It originated as part of a three-pronged media service that included online and radio platforms. BBC Alba is a joint venture between MG Alba, which receives funding from the Scottish government, and BBC Scotland. Post the 2012 digital switchover, it now delivers Gaelic programmes on all platforms.

BBC Alba operates out of four studios located at Pacific Quay in Glasgow, Stornoway for vision continuity, Inverness for news programmes, and Portree. While the channel invests approximately £10 million annually on fresh content, a significant portion of their broadcasts still draw from the archive of programmes made by STV and BBC.
